Preview

Brazil will take on Spain in the gold medal match of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics men's soccer tournament on Saturday inside the International Stadium Yokohama. Both teams deservedly earn their respective spots in the final after overcoming tough tests in the penultimate clash of the ongoing competition. For Brazil, it took more than enudrance for them to book a place in the round that matters most, beating Mexico 4-1 on penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time.

The journey of Andre Jardine's men has been daunting as they had to overcome Egypt via a 1-0 scoreline to even book their place in the semi-finals. Prior to that, the Selecao had secured two wins and a draw from the group stages, progressing to the knockout round above Ivory Coast, Germany and Saudi Arabia.

Against this backdrop, they will be eager to continue their impressive unbeaten run as they have managed six wins and a draw from their last seven outings across all competitions. With the objective to defend their Olympic medal now as glaring as ever, they will hope that to be on the better side of history this time around.

For Spain, the late win over host Japan in the semid-final of the tournament should be enough motivation going into the clash with Brazil. Following another drab 0-0 draw in almost 120 minutes, Marcos Asenso emerged out of nowhere to become the hero for the European side, netting the eventual winner with just five of the 30 extra-time minutes remaining.

The heartbreak dished out to the Japanese team led Spain to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to seven, with La Roja accounting for three wins and four draws. Considering that Spain's last win of the tournament was in 1992, one could make a case for them to finally end the drought with their second-ever title in over three decades. Perhaps, the fact that they missed out on winning goal in 2000 could also help their cause to deny Brazil a festive day.
