CONCACAF Gold Cup final broadcast info

USMNT vs Mexico - Watch the CONCACAF Gold Cup final on August 1, 2021

July 31, 2021 By Oscar Rojas
The rivalry between the Americans and El Tri will add another chapter to its book this Sunday. Follow this match with our detailed guide.

Thirty games have been played in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, but the most important one is set to be played on Sunday between the United States and Mexico. This clash has always handed fans quite a few emotions, and the title clash for this summer's competition is expected to follow suit.

The American side will enter this game after winning all of their previous games. If that was not impressive enough, the fact that the Yanks have only conceded once should be quite impressive. Their semi-final tie was solved with a one-nil score in the final minutes against Qatar. In the goalscoring department, Gregg Berhalter's men have scored ten goals in five games, with Daryl Dike and Gyasi Zardes leading the team with two goals.

On the other hand, Mexico will enter this game after winning all but one of their matches, which ended in a draw against Trinidad & Tobago. Since then, El Tri collected nothing but wins, including a 2-1 victory over Canada in the semi-finals. That goal conceded against Canada is the only one that Mexico have allowed in the tournament, while their footballers have found the back of the net nine times. Argentine-born striker Rogelio Funes Mori is the team's top scorer with three goals.

Both of these teams will have a full squad to choose from, as none of them have reported any injuries ahead of Sunday's match. Added to that, there are no suspended players for the big game on Sunday.

This will be the eighth CONCACAF Gold Cup meeting between the USMNT and Mexico. It all began in 1991 when these teams met in the semi-finals and the Americans claimed a two-nil win. The remaining seven games in this competition have been title matches, and Mexico have won six of those, including the one played in the 2019 edition, where Mexico defeated the Stars and Stripes with a one-nil score. The only win for the American side came in the 2007 Gold Cup, when they won the title with a 2-1 end result.

The last game between these teams took place a bit over a month ago in the CONCACAF Nations League final. The Mexican side claimed the lead twice during the game, but in the end, a late penalty by Christian Pulisic saw the Americans win that title with a 3-2 score.
