It's a rematch between the 2019 Women's World Cup finalists as the Netherlands and the USWNT lock horns in the 2020 Olympic Games quarter-finals.

Preview: Netherlands vs the USWNT

One of three debutant sides at this summer's Olympics, the Netherlands have hardly looked like rookies so far in Tokyo. The Oranje kicked off their first ever appearance at this competition by beating fellow debutants Zambia in a 13 - yes, thirteen - goal thriller. During that match, Sarina Wiegman's team scored a whopping ten goals against their opponents. While they weren't able to get the better of Brazil, settling for a three-all draw, the Netherlands, who burst onto the scene only six ago, crushed China 8-2 in their final group stage game to set an Olympics record for most goals scored.

Indeed, with 21 goals (an average of seven per match), the Netherlands have smashed the 16 scored by the USWNT during their gold-winning campaign in 2012. Notably, the Stars and Stripes scored those 16 over the course of the entire tournament, meaning that the Oranje, should they succeed in their first ever appearance in an Olympics knock-out round, could add more to their staggering tally. Revenge will also be on the minds of the Netherlands, who lost 2-0 to the USWNT in the 2019 World Cup final, but their record against the world's no. 1 women's team is nothing to write home about.

Of their nine meetings, the USWNT have lost just once, which was way back in 1991. That being said, the Stars and Stripes have hardly impressed so far at this summer's event. Team USA suffered a shock opening result, losing 3-0 to Sweden, before barely scraping past New Zealand and firing blanks in a dull draw with Australia. Still, four points was enough to qualify for this stage but will Vlatko Andonovski's team be able to get their act together in time and book their spot in the semi-finals?

Team news: Netherlands vs the USWNT

Netherlands: Veteran Sherida Spitse, who has nearly 200 caps to her name, had to withdraw just before the tournament kicked off after suffering a knee injury and was thus replaced by Joëlle Smits.

USWNT: Julie Ertz was the only player struggling with injury, but the veteran midfielder has since recovered enough to be part of this team and feature in the starting XI.
