Olympic Soccer (Men) - Where to watch Brazil vs Ivory Coast live on July 25, 2021

July 24, 2021 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Brazil and Ivory Coast will hope to build on their impressive start when they play against each other in Sunday's Tokyo 2020 encounter.

Preview

Defending champions Brazil will take on Ivory Coast in their second group game of the men's Olympics soccer competition with the hope of securing a win that will book their place in the next stage. The Seleccao are eager to keep the momentum going after opening their account at the tournament with an emphatic 4-2 win over Germany - the team they beat in the final of the preious edition. A hat-trick by Richardlison, as well as Paulinho's strike were enough to seal the deal for the Brazilians whereas Nadiem Amiri and Ragnar Ache scored the consolation goals for the Germans.

Brazil approaches Sunday's game on the back of three successive wins in which they have managed an aggregate of 12 goals to four. Across the last 26 games, the Olympics team of the South American nation has been unbeaten in 24 appearances with only two matches ending in a defeat. Against the Ivory Coast, they will hope to make a step closer to getting their hands on another gold medal, despite the tag of the West African country as dark horses.

Just like Brazil, they began the group stage on an impressive note, defeating Saudi Arabia 2-1 to climb into second position in Group D. The deadlock was broken by a 39th minutes own-goal by Abdulelah Alamri before Salem Al-Dawasari equalized on the stroke of half-time. Ultimately, it was Frank Kessie's brilliant strike that settled the game for the to Africa sides with a little over 28 minutes remaining.

In general, the run of the Elephants at the Olympics has been slightly above average. They have managed three wins and two defeats from the five matches they have played in at the finals. But, still, Coach Soualiho Haidara's charges should be optimistic about their chances to defy the odds and make meaningful contributions to the day's encounter. A win should be enough to take them into the knockout stage with a game to spare.

Team news

Ivory Coast will be without Maccabi Netanya forward Aboubacar Doumbia who was shown a red card in the second-half of their win over Saudi Arabia. He is set to miss out on featuring in the clash as he serves his supension.

For Brazil, there are no fresh injury concerns as Arsenal's Gabriel Magalhaes and Marseille's Gerson were both withdrawn from the squad before departure.

Predicted starting XI

  • Brazil: Santos; Alves, Carlos, Nino, Guilherme; Luiz, Guimaraes, Claudinho; Paulinho, Richarlison, Cunha

  • Ivory Coast: Tape; Singo, Bailly, Dabila, I. Diallo; A. Diallo, I. Doumbia, Kessie, Eboue, Gradel; Kouame.
