The USWNT, Sweden, Canada, Great Britain, and Brazil have to be named as favorites to go all the way, but they have to go through a tough group stage to cement their chances. Here are their games for Matchday 1.

After more than one year of waiting, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games will kick off with its team sports events. The first one of those will be the football matches for the women's category.

As you may know, the twelve teams in the competition will be divided in three groups. The top two teams will make it to the next round, and two of the three third-placed teams will also make the final stage of the competition.

These are the groups for the Olympic Football tournament in the Women's category.

Now, let's have a deeper look at the games in chronological order.

Great Britain vs Chile

The British side will enter its second Olympic Football tournament after their performance in the 2012 edition, where they reached the Quarter-finals. On the other hand, the South American team will make its debut in this tournament, following their successful run to play the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup and finishing second in the 2018 Copa América Femenina.

China vs Brazil

The Chinese side enter the competition trying to improve their best finish in this kind of event, which took place in 1996, when they won the silver medal. Since then, the Chinese team have only reached the final eight teams twice. On the other side of the pitch, Brazil will try to achieve their third podium after winning the silver medal in 2004 and 2008. Their performance in the 2016 edition saw the South Americans finish fourth.

Sweden vs USA

Perhaps the most interesting game of the first stage will see the Swedish team facing the favorites to take the gold home for a fifth time in this type of tournament. The blue and yellow team finished second in 2016, and winning such a medal this time would be quite something for them. On the other hand, the USWNT will have to work hard to show that their performance in 2016, when they were eliminated in the Quarter-finals, was nothing but a casual moment. With Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, and Christen Press ready to impress, this should be quite a game to witness.
