The Spanish league's governing body has authorized Lionel Messi’s registration, confirming that he will probably continue as a Barcelona player.

La Liga authorities have given Barcelona the go-ahead to complete the registration of Lionel Messi as a Barcelona player, a report from Spain on Saturday revealed. This comes after claims that an agreement reached between club president Joan Laporta and the Argentine' superstar's father, Jorge Messi for a new contract to be signed.

Lionel Messi's future at Barcelona has been in serious doubt with the club having failed to tie him down to a contract extension in years past. At the moment, he is not a Barca player after his contract was made to run down past the June 31st deadline. Nevertheless, the 34-year-old is expected to stay but will be required to take a pay cut due to the financial crisis Barcelona are currently in.

On Friday, Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman revealed that he was worried about Messi although he remained confident that president Joan Laporta will resolve the issue and get the Blaugrana skipper to sign a new deal. With the player set to feature in the final of the ongoing Copa America on Saturday night, his future is expected to be resolved after the tournament. The signs emerging from Spain are, however, positive with AS reporting that La Liga has authorized the registration of Lionel Messi as a Barcelona player for the upcoming season.

The new information suggests that president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, has agreed to terms offered by Barcelona in terms of the wages Messi will receive. The Argentine us expected to receive an undisclosed amount presumed to be less than what he currently received for the 2021/22 season in order for the Catalans to fit within the La Liga's Fair Play and salary cap rules. The wages will then be increased when some players are offloaded in the subsequent season.

Following the expiration of Lionel Messi's contract at the end of June, he is said to be losing an estimated €100,000 per day. Meanwhile, despite this major development, there are still speculations that Paris Saint-Germain are trying to secure the service of the Barcelona talisman this summer.
