Colombia and Peru will lock-horns on Friday in a battle for third-place in the Copa America.

Preview

Peru and Colombia will lock horns at Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha in a bid to clinch the bronze medal at the ongoing Copa America. The pair fell short in the respective penultimate games after pushing limits to be within just a win from the finals. For Peru, the mission would have been complete had it not been for the narrow 1-0 defeat they suffered against Brazil on Monday. In fairness, Ricardo Gareca's men hardly turned up to the party with the Neymar Jr-Lucas Paqueta partnership proving profitable for the Seleccao once more, combining to put in another great shift, eventually capping it with a goal.

Prior to the set-back, Peru had booked their place in the semi-finals by beating Paraguay via penalties after an enthralling encounter which ended 3-3. They have had a fairly decent competition so far, winning three of the six matches they featured in so far, losing two and drawing once. Having already beaten Colombia in the group stages, Los Incas would fancy their chances of keeping the run going.

In the same vein, Los Cafeteros will be eager to up the ante this time around considering how they maintained a steady ride despite the defeat to Peru in the group stage. A 2-1 defeat to Brazil subsequently followed but that barely told the tale as Rueda Rivera's men assumed a position of command in that encounter before the collapse. Late goals by Roberto Firmino and Casemiro did the trick for the host nation after Luiz Dias had opened the scoring in the first half.

Colombia then took the motivation into the quarter-final clash with Uruguay and were able to stand their ground right till the end. Following a 0-0 draw in the regular time, goalkeeper David Ospina emerged as the hero by saving the spot-kicks of Jose Gimenez and Matias Vina to secure a 4-2 shoot-out win for his side. However, the former Arsenal shot-stopper failed to replicate his performance in the penultimate clash as Lionel Messi and the Argentina charges will dash their final hopes by running away with a 3-2 win from spot-kicks after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

So close and yet so far but both sides should go at it and deliver an entertaining spectacle for neutrals with a second-runners up place at stake.

Team news

Peru will welcome the return of winger Andre Carrillo into the fold for the meeting with Colombia. The attacker was forced to sit out the defeat to Brazil after picking up a red card in the in the quarter-final win over Paraguay.

Both sides have no injury concerns to deal with.
