The England skipper equalized a long-standing record by scoring the winner in Tuesday night's encounter.

England skipper Harry Kane entered the history books yet again for his contribution in Wednesday's clash with Denmark under controversial circumstances. The Tottenham Hotspur striker scored his fourth goal of the tournament and his 10th in an international tournament to equal Gary Lineker's record for the most goals scored by an English player.

It was a fairly balanced clash between the English and the Danes with both sides going at it right into extra-time. The latter took the lead in the 30th minute through Mikkel Damsgaard's sensational free-kick goal before the playing field was levelled nine minutes later as a result of Simon Kjaer's own-goal. The AC Milan defender in an attempt to block Raheem Sterling from meeting a low cross from the right flank by Bukayo Saka, ended up redirecting the ball into his own net.

Both sides came close in the second half but none was able to find the all-important goal to edge in front. The turning point, however, came in the 102nd minute after a controversial penalty went in favor of England's Raheem Sterling. The Manchester City man had tricked his way through the Danish defense into the box and ended up taking a tumble to the ground after his trailing leg got caught by Joakim Maehle. A brief review by the Video Assistant Referee awarded the hosts the opportunity which was subsequently missed by Harry Kane. He then swiftly reacted to Kasper Schimeichel's rebound to put his side ahead.

With the strike, the Tottenham Hotspur superstar is just one goal away from owning the record as England's all-time top-goalscorer at major tournaments. A goal in the final against Italy could also see him secure the Golden Boot, making him the first player in history to win the accolade at the World Cup and in the Euros in succession.
