Real Madrid vs Real Zaragoza Report

January 28, 2012 By Angela Asante
Zaragoza scored first through Lafita but Real Madrid replied with goals from Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Özil.
Jose Mourinho offered Pepe yet another spot in Real Madrid’s starting XI. The Portuguese defender partnered with Carvalho and Hamit Altintop at the back whereas Granero and Xabi Alonso featured as defensive midfielders in the 4-2-3-1 formation. Kaka and Mesut Özil joined Cristiano Ronaldo in attack as Karim Benzema led the line as a lone striker.

The first great chance of the match fell to Karim Benzema inside the 6th minute. Cristiano Ronaldo set up the Frenchman who headed the ball into the wrong direction from 4 yards. Despite having little ball possession, Real Zaragoza broke the deadlock at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Huge moment for Zaragoza provided by Lafita but Real Madrid were always likely to respond. Cristiano Ronaldo combined with Kaka and Ricardo Carvalho to level the score line. The number 7 player later got his name on the scoring sheet with an easy tap in thanks to Benzema and Özil’s efforts.

Mesut Özil sealed Real Madrid’s victory on the night with a 56th minute goal. As time passed by, Los Blancos opted to waste it by keeping possession. Real Zaragoza could do nothing but wait until the final whistle to stop playing.

Real Madrid have now gathered 27 points from a possible 30 at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga. They also possess an average of 4.1 goals per match on home soil.

The chase for the Spanish Primera Division title continues for Jose Mourinho’s hungry Whites…
