The Azzurri wing-back suffered an unfortunate injury towards the end of yesterday's game, thus ending his run in this tournament.

Italy enjoyed one of their most memorable matches in recent years when they took on Belgium in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals, beating FIFA's no.1 ranked nation 2-1 to set up a juicy semi-final showdown with Spain.

Roberto Mancini's side locked horns with De Bruyne and Co. yesterday in what was a stellar 90 minutes of football. The Azzurri, who had been nothing short of amazing in the build-up to this round, winning every single game, scoring nine goals and conceding only once in the previous four ties.

And it did not take too long for the Italians to take the advantage. At the half-an-hour mark, Nicolo Barella gave the four-time World Cup champions the lead after a brilliant moment of magic. In the 44th minute, Lorenzo Insigne doubled their lead, curling an unstoppable shot past Thibaut Courtois.

While the Red Devils were able to get one back right before half time, with Romelu Lukaku scoring from the spot after Jérémy Doku won them a penalty, Italy held on to their lead and secured the win, with Bonucci and Chiellini putting on a commanding display at the back.

However, the win did not come without drawbacks. Leonardo Spinazzola succumbed to injury and was stretchered off the pitch in tears in the 80th minute, which is a major blow for Mancini's side. The Roma wing-back has been one of the tournament's star players and upon his exit, the Azzurri were immediately put on the back foot, having lost a commanding player on the left side of the pitch.

After beating Belgium, the Italian players were caught on camera paying tribute to their comrade, chanting his name on the airplane as they made their way back from that unforgettable victory. Check it out in the video below.

Unfortunately, this will do nothing to speed up his recovery. Not only is Spinazzola's Euro 2020 tournament over, the Serie A ace could miss up to 12 months of action, according to the speculations. The player reportedly broke his Achilles tendon, which would mean a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"He has been one of the best players of this tournament and he will still be even if he can't play in the next games. We are very, very sad with what has happened it seems quite a serious one," Mancini admitted after the game, as per ESPN.

Nothing has been confirmed as of now, meaning Spinazzola's layoff has not been determined yet. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the Italian receives the best possible outcome.
