La Liga: 2021-22 full calendar revealed

La Liga: 2021-2022 full calendar and fixtures revealed

June 30, 2021 By Oscar Rojas
There will be five midweek matchdays throughout the competition and three games being played on December 31, among other details.

The 2021-22 will be quite special to follow, as some members of the top teams will not be around anymore. Added to that, the possibility of watching Atlético win back-to-back titles will be enough to keep track of this leagues's matches throughout the season that is set to kick off on August 15.

Earlier today, the Spanish Football Federation and La Liga hosted the draw for the 2021-22 La Liga season, which will mark the returns of Espanyol, Mallorca, and Rayo Vallecano, three teams that have enjoyed successful seasons in the Spanish top-flight. Their comebacks assure that the battle to avoid relegation will be quite entertaining, and who knows? Maybe they can pull off a stunning season such as the one by Leeds United in the Premier League during the 2020-21 campaign.

Just like every other year, all the attention will be centered on Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Madrid. The defending champions will kick off the tournament at Celta Vigo's stadium, while Los Blaugranas have been scheduled to host Real Sociedad in their opening game of the season.

Real Madrid requested to have their three first games programmed as an away team, in order to end the current upgrades being made at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Hence, Los Blancos will have three consecutive games on the road, with Alavés, Levante, and Real Betis being their first opponents.

Speaking of the most interesting games, fans will surely be eager to watch the Madrid Derby between Real Madrid and the defending champions Atlético. The first one of those will see Real Madrid as hosts, while the second match is scheduled to be played at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

A couple of games that will keep fans on the edge of their seats will be the ones between Atlético and Barcelona. Los Colchoneros will host Koeman's side during the first half of the season, while Los Culés will wait until February to welcome them at Camp Nou.

And if you thought we would not tell you when El Clásico will be played, you are wrong! The biggest games of the season in La Liga are scheduled to be played in October with Los Blaugranas as hosts. Hence, Real Madrid will welcome Los Culés at their revamped Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in March 2022.

While all games have been scheduled today, their kickoff times will be determined by La Liga weeks before they take place. Keep track of all kickoff times, news and standings in our dedicated La Liga website.
