The Red Devils boss was asked if it was his coaching, and not the players, that is responsible for the English giants' ongoing problems.

Erik ten Hag endured an eye-catching clash with one journalist during his post-match press conference after Manchester United's embarrassing 3-0 loss to Liverpool.

Despite boasting the home advantage, the Red Devils were torn apart by Arne Slot's men on Matchday 3 of the Premier League, with Mohamed Salah putting in a scintillating performance.

The Egyptian superstar assisted both of Luis Diaz's first-half goals before getting on the scoresheet in the second half to complete Manchester United's humiliation. As for Ten Hag's side, they have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the league, losing 2-1 to Brighton over a week ago.

As a result, questions were asked of the Dutchman both by the fans — on social media — and journalists. However, this put the manager on a collision course with one reporter, sparking a fiery exchange.

That report, Mail Sport's football editor Ian Ladyman, asked the former Ajax boss if the issue underpinning Manchester United's problems is his coaching and whether the Dutchman should hold himself responsible for the regular errors his side commits.

That question was in relation to the individual mistakes that led to Liverpool's three goals, with Casemiro (twice) and Kobbie Mainoo being caught while attempting to build out from the back.

Ten Hag, who spoke defiantly about Manchester United's odds of recovering from this result and delivering trophies this season, did not hold back when addressing the question.

"So, what do you mean? Tell me then, maybe you can explain me which mistakes we make regular?"

The reporter then went on to list the mistakes he believes Ten Hag's side regularly makes, saying: "Constantly turning over the ball in your own half, playing the ball out from the back, getting mugged, chances coming off the back of it, counter attacks where you are outnumbered, giving up endless chances."

"With the greatest respect you did brilliantly against Manchester City in the final, you almost lost to Coventry in the semi-final I mean come on let's have a realistic view of what happened," Ladyman added.

However, Ten Hag was having none of this, instead opting to remind the reporter of his trophy haul since arriving at Old Trafford.

"I think we won, after City, the most trophies in English football so I'm sorry for you," the Dutchman simply replied.

The former Ajax boss has won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup since his arrival in England, with current Carabao Cup holders Liverpool being the only team to win silverware other than the two Manchester giants.

Nonetheless, Bruno Fernandes and Co. finished eighth in the league last season and the early signs point to another frustrating campaign for the Red Devils.
