Los Blancos beat the UEFA Europa League champions, with the club, the manager, and the captain all setting records along the way.

Wednesday goes down as a historic night for Real Madrid, the manager, and one key player after the Spanish giants beat Atalanta 2-0 to win the UEFA Super Cup.

The UEFA Champions League holders locked horns with the Serie A outfit in Warsaw and were made to wait until the second half before breaking the deadlock. Federico Valverde gave Los Merengues the lead just before the hour mark thanks to a brilliant moment of magic from Vinicius Junior, who assisted the Uruguayan.

Real Madrid doubled their lead less than 10 minutes later, with marque summer signing Kylian Mbappe scoring on his debut after being teed up by Ballon d'Or favorite and Man of the Match winner Jude Bellingham.

And with that, the Spanish champions made history. The Madrid giants entered this fixture equal with Barcelona and AC Milan as the most successful clubs in UEFA Super Cup history with five each. However, Wednesday's win sees Real Madrid move ahead of their domestic and continental rivals.

Ancelotti also made history in this fixture. Not only did he overtake Pep Guardiola as the most successful manager in the UEFA Super Cup after winning it for a sixth time, but the Italian also became Real Madrid's joint-most successful manager in history.

Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup crown was Carlo's 14th title at Santiago Bernabeu, seeing him move level with Miguel Muñoz as the Blancos boss with the most trophies.

Additionally, Luka Modric, who came on as a substitute before lifting the title, also smashed a fantastic record. This trophy was his 27th in a Merengues shirt, thus making him the most decorated player ever for the club.

While all of these milestones are fantastic, what mattered most to the Spanish giants was the result. While Kylian Mbappe finally joined the club, Ancelotti needed to show his team can continue dominating despite the departure of Toni Kroos and Nacho.

With this game done, Rela Madrid can now shift focus to La Liga. The Spanish top-flight season kicks off on Thursday, with the reigning champions commencing their title defense on Sunday against Mallorca.
