The final matchday of the men's 2024 Olympic Soccer tournament is here. Only two teams have secured progression to the quarterfinals but who will join them in the next round?

The group stage of the men's 2024 Olympic soccer tournament wraps up on Tuesday, with all four groups being decided over four different time slots.

The actions get underway with two simultaneous 9 a.m. ET (13:00 GMT) kick-offs that will decide Group A's quarterfinal representative. Hosts France are in this mix, and while Les Bleus should make the last eight, the home fans cannot be relaxed for the final game against New Zealand.

Group B, which takes center stage at 11 a.m. ET (15:00 GMT), promises to be the most exciting group as all four participants are tied on three points each. Argentina, Ukraine, Iraq, and Morocco have all shown promising signs and could win a ticket to the quarterfinals — though La Albiceleste boast a slight advantage due to goal difference.

Additionally, three out of the four teams are still in contention for progression in the fourth and final group. Out of the 16 participants, only two have qualified, and of the two that have qualified, neither have won their group. As a result, a lot is at stake in the final matchday of the men's 2024 Olympic soccer tournament.

Furthermore, the permutations that dictate who needs what to qualify are also interesting. Here is a quick breakdown of what each team needs to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Permutations

Group A

Pos.TeamMPWDLGFGAGDPForm
1 France 3 3 0 0 7 0 7 9 WWW
2 United States 3 2 0 1 7 4 3 6 WWL
3 New Zealand 3 1 0 2 3 8 -5 3 LLW
4 Guinea 3 0 0 3 1 6 -5 0 LLL

France boast six points and are thus in a strong position. Les Bleus need nothing more than a draw to qualify for the quarterfinals and win the group. A defeat could suffice if the USA doesn't win in the other tie.

New Zealand, meanwhile, must simply better the USMNT's result. The All Whites will bow out if both fixtures end in a draw. Meanwhile, goal difference will be the tiebreaker if New Zealand and the USA win on the final day.

USA will progress to the quarterfinals with a draw if New Zealand fail to beat France.

Guinea have to beat the USA by more than a goal in their final fixture and hope New Zealand lose to France in the other match to make it out of Group A.

Group B

1 Morocco 3 2 0 1 6 3 3 6 WLW
2 Argentina 3 2 0 1 6 3 3 6 WWL
3 Ukraine 3 1 0 2 3 5 -2 3 LWL
4 Iraq 3 1 0 2 3 7 -4 3 LLW

Argentina require nothing more than a draw to progress to the last eight — though a victory is ideal to win the group.

Ukraine need a win to secure progression. If both games end in a draw, the final quarterfinal ticket will go to either the Blue and Yellow or Morocco, with goal difference deciding between the two.

Morocco must win to secure progression. If both games end in a draw, the final quarterfinal ticket will go to either the Atlas Lions or Ukraine, with goal difference deciding between the two.

Anything but a win will see Iraq crash out due to their inferior goal difference.

Group C

Pos.TeamMPWDLGFGAGDPForm
1 Egypt 3 2 1 0 3 1 2 7 WWD
2 Spain 3 2 0 1 6 4 2 6 LWW
3 Dominican Republic 3 0 2 1 2 4 -2 2 DLD
4 Uzbekistan 3 0 1 2 2 4 -2 1 DLL

Spain have already qualified and must simply avoid defeat to top their group.

Egypt, meanwhile, will qualify with a draw and will win the group if they beat La Roja. A defeat could result in elimination for the Pharaohs.

The Dominican Republic need to beat Uzbekistan and hope Egypt lose to Spain in the other match. Both teams will finish on four points, which means goal difference will decide who joins Spain in the quarterfinals.

Uzbekistan have already been eliminated and cannot qualify for the next round.

Group D

Pos.TeamMPWDLGFGAGDPForm
1 Japan 3 3 0 0 7 0 7 9 WWW
2 Paraguay 3 2 0 1 5 7 -2 6 WWL
3 Mali 3 0 1 2 1 3 -2 1 LLD
4 Israel 3 0 1 2 3 6 -3 1 LLD

Japan have already qualified for the quarterfinals and are likely to win the group thanks to their immensely superior goal difference over second-placed Paraguay.

Israel have to beat Japan and hope the other fixture between Paraguay and Mali ends in a draw to secure qualification. If Paraguay also win, the Skyblue and Whites will bow out. If Mali wins, then goal difference will come into play.

Paraguay progress to the quarterfinals with a win over Mali. A draw would suffice so long as Israel fail to beat Japan in the other match.

Mali must beat Paraguay on the final day to be in contention. If Israel slip up in the other match, then the African nation are through. If Israel also win, then goal difference will decide between the two.
