Preview

Group B in Euro 2024 wraps up this Monday, with Spain facing Albania while Italy lock horns with Croatia in the standout fixture — both games simultaneously kick off at 3 p.m. ET (19:00 GMT).

Only one of these four teams has secured qualification to the round of 16 and that is Spain, with the 2010 FIFA World Cup winners also sealing a top-spot finish. This came after winning their opening two matches, dispatching Croatia 3-0 in their first fixture before overcoming Italy 1-0.

The Azzurri, on the other hand, sit on three points and are thus the favorites to join La Furia Roja in the knockout stage. Spalletti's men got things underway with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Albania. However, a Riccardo Calafiori own goal condemned the four-time FIFA World Cup winners to a 1-0 loss to Spain.

As for Albania and Croatia, they are fighting for their lives. Both sides are level with a point each, though Modric and Co. boast a terrible goal difference thanks to their 3-0 opening-day defeat to Spain.

Vatreni came close to a victory on Matchday 2 but conceded a last-gasp equalizer to draw 2-2 with the Albanians. As a result, both nations are staring at group-stage elimination, though progress to the round of 16 remains mathematically possible.

Permutations

Spain have won the group and the result on Monday will not affect that.

Italy cannot surpass Spain but they simply need to avoid defeat to finish as runners-up. The Azzurri will crash out in the group stage if they lose their final game and Albania beat Spain.

Albania should make the last 16 if they beat Spain as that would leave them with four points. The Red and Blacks will finish as runners-up should they win on Monday and Croatia overcome the Italians should they maintain their superior overall goal difference over Vatreni.

Croatia will finish as runners-up if they beat Italy and Albania slip up against Spain. Modric and Co. should still progress if both they and Albania win on the final day, though who finishes second and third will be determined by overall goal difference, followed by overall goals scored, then disciplinary points, and finally European qualifiers rankings.

Both Croatia and Albania will crash out if they lose. A similar fate is likely should both sides draw also.

Round of 16 bracket: Who will face who in the knockout stage?

Spain, the winner of this group, will face the third-placed team from Group A/D/E/F.

The runners-up in this group will face the runners-up in Group A. This means Italy, Albania, or Croatia — all three can mathematically finish second — will face Switzerland.

If the third-placed team qualify for the round of 16, they will face Portugal or the winner of Group E (Belgium, Romania, Ukraine, and Slovakia all head into the final Matchday with three points each).

Team news

Spain: Rodri is suspended, meaning Martin Zubimendi could get a start. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya will also hope to make his debut as De la Fuente plots a handful of changes.

Italy: Federico Dimarco is a doubt. Meanwhile, Gianluca Scamacca and Jorginho could all be dropped for this clash after disappointing in the defeat to Spain.

Albania: Armando Broja, Gjasula, Elseid Hysaj, Arber Hoxha, and Mirlind Daku are all a booking away from suspension. The Red and Blacks have no other concerns.

Croatia: Nikola Vlasic recently left the squad due to injury. There are no other concerns for Vatreni.

Key stats

  • Croatia have lost only once when facing a reigning champion in the European Championship. However, they have also won only once, drawing in their other run-in.
