Argentina vs Canada -  Team news

Argentina will enter this game as the massive favorite to take all the points, given their status as defending champions in the competition and following their World Cup success. La Albiceleste has won all but one of their fourteen most recent games, which may be enough reason to expect a goalscoring fiesta for those in attendance and watching on TV. The team's success will obviously be related to Lionel Messi, who could live his final hurrah in the Copa América, a competition he will try to win once more to cement his legacy as one of the best players of all time.

Their rivals on Thursday will be Canada, an up and coming team from Concacaf who will be making its debut in the competition. Led by Jesse Marsch, the Canucks have prepared to shock the world led by players such as Alphonso Davies, the team's most famous footballer. Other players to keep an eye on will be Jonathan David, Cyle Larin, and Tajon Buchanan, three of the team's World Cup squad who have the skills to give La Albiceleste quite a scare. The Canadians have only won two of their last seven fixtures, including a 4-0 loss to the Netherlands two weeks before the start of the competition.

Both teams will have a full squad to choose from, as no injuries have been reported from any of the team's camps.

Argentina vs Canada: Head-to-head

  • This will be the first Copa América match in history between these national teams.

  • The only match between these teams took place back in 2010, with Argentina claiming a five-nil win.

  • This will be Canada's 24th game against a team from CONMEBOL. They have only been able to win three of those. Meanwhile, thirteen of the remaining games have ended in defeat for the Canucks.

  • Argentina will play their eleventh Copa América game against a Concacaf rival. Their record stands at seven wins, one draw, and two losses: one against the USMNT, the other facing Mexico.

  • This will be the first-ever game between coaches Lionel Scaloni and Jesse Marsch.
