Manchester City recently won a fourth Premier League title in a row, a feat no other club has achieved. However, the English champions could be in for a tricky summer as one of their most important players shockingly opened the door to an Etihad Stadium exit.
That man is Kevin de Bruyne, regarded by many as the best midfielder in the Premier League. The Belgian superstar racked up an impressive 18 assists last season despite missing the first half of the season, thus reminding everyone of his quality.
However, with only one year left on his contract, his future remains up in the air. A move to Saudi initially appeared unlikely for the former Chelsea player. However, in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, De Bruyne all but confirmed he is open to joining the Middle-Eastern league.
"I still have one year left on my contract, so I have to think about what could happen," he told the Belgian newspaper, as per the Daily Mail.
"My eldest is now eight years old and knows nothing but England. He also asks how long I will play for City. Once the moment comes, we will have to deal with it in a certain way.
"At my age you have to be open to everything. You're talking about incredible amounts of money in what may be the end of my career. Sometimes you have to think about that.'
The Belgian sensation also added: "If I play there for two years, I will be able to earn an incredible amount of money. Before that I had to play football for 15 years. I may not even reach that amount yet.
"Then you have to think about what that could mean next. But at the moment I haven't had to think about that yet."
De Bruyne has admitted to having extensive discussions with his wife regarding his future. However, his partner appears to be open to such a move.
The 32-year-old would not be the first Manchester City player to swap the Premier League for the Saudi Pro League if he opts to go down this route. Former teammates Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez did just that last summer. However, De Bruyne is also subject to interest from the MLS — though no club in the United States can offer anything remotely close to the Saudis.
