Jose Mourinho hires Premier League goalie for new Roma gig

June 24, 2021 By Oscar Rojas
Sources close to the negotiation revealed that the footballer made quite an effort to see the deal through.

José Mourinho has finally found the right man to guard Roma's net in his new Serie A adventure, as a deal with a Premier League squad has been sealed and will be announced in the next few weeks.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Jose Mourinho will have one more Portuguese footballer at his disposal while coaching the giallorossi, as the Italian club has agreed terms to hire Wolverhampton Wanderers' Rui Patricio on a three-year transfer.

Negotiations between both clubs ended when Roma agreed to pay the Wolves a bit over $7M plus add-ons. The report states that Wolverhampton's asking prace was for twice as much as Roma paid, but Rui Patricio's desire to join Mourinho at the Italian capital saw him pushing for the deal to be accepted.

According to the Italian publication, Rui Patricio had agreed personal terms with Roma long before both clubs agreed to see the deal through. Now, the giallorossi will wait for Portugal's run in the Euro to end to have a chance to unveil Rui Patricio as their new player.

This will be the first of many transfers by Roma under Mourinho, as reports suggest that The Special One will launch a bid to sign Granit Xhaka and Filip Kostic as some of his main transfer targets. Other positions where Mourinho would like reinforcements would be at center back and up front, where Wolves' Raúl Jiménez was also linked to the Roman club.
