It has been a busy summer at Real Madrid's headquarters, and even if the UEFA Euro 2020 is in full motion, that has not slowed down their plans for the 2021-22 season.
The Spanish giants have signed Carlo Ancelotti and David Alaba as their first reinforcements, while Sergio Ramos and Zinedine Zidane will not be around anymore. In the last few hours, the name of Raphael Varane has been added to the list of potential exits from the club, and sources close to the club have already leaked the player's potential destination if he ends up saying goodbye to Los Merengues.
The center back has refused to sign a contract extension with Los Blancos, and the club is fearful to see one of their best players leave on a free deal next season. Hence, they want to cash in on a player who could be sold for a bit over $65M. That's where Manchester United come in.
Sources consulted by As suggest that Los Blancos would be willing to let Varane join the Red Devils for that amount of money, since the English side has been following the player's future closely. Nevertheless, they would not be interested in splashing that amount of cash for a player they could get on a free deal next season. With that in mind, the Red Devils may be interesting in adding one of their own to the deal: Paul Pogba.
The English club could see Pogba leaving the club on a free transfer next season, and they would also be keen on getting something in exchange for the midfielder before this happens. Hence, the deal with Real Madrid would help them strengthen their defense and also get something for Pogba's departure.
While both footballers have stated that they will decide their future once the UEFA Euro comes to an end, their clubs are reportedly working out a deal to see them cross paths. Only time will tell if this deal takes place and which side will be on the winning side of such a move.
