The Barcelona superstar netted the equalizer in the 1-1 draw with Hungary, saving Les Bleus from an embarrassing loss.

France's Euro 2020 showdown with Hungary was nothing short of disappointing. Taking on Magyars in Saturday's early kick off, Les Bleus were expected to march to a comfortable victory and, possibly, win Group F – the group of death – with a game remaining. However, things did not unfold as planned for the World Cup holders.

Deschamps' men began the half extremely well, creating several chances to break the deadlock. Unfortunately, Mbappe and Co. could not put the ball in the back of the net and just before the half-time whistle, the Russia 2018 winners found themselves trailing.

Attila Fiola beat Hugo Lloris at the near post after completing a quick and inch-perfect counter attack, leaving fans wondering if a shock defeat was in store for France. Fortunately, Antoine Griezmann stepped up to save Les Bleus from embarrassment.

The European giants came knocking in the second half, and just over the hour mark, they found the equalizer, with Griezmann benefiting from poor defending and a botched clearance to smash the ball past Peter Gulacsi. The French went looking for the winning goal and threw the kitchen sink in search of the breakthrough. Unfortunately, that never came, meaning that Griezmaann and Co. were forced to settle for a point.

Despite the disappointing result, the Barcelona superstar came away from that fixture having moved closer to a French national team record. His 66th-minute strike was his seventh goal for Les Bleus in the European Championship. Only one player in history has scored more times in this competition for the two-time World Cup winners and that is Michel Platini (9).

Given that he is only two goals short of that milestone, we could easily see the former Atletico Madrid man break that record in this tournament. As for the all-time top scorer, that honor goes to Cristiano Ronaldo who has netted 12 times so far.
