Group C in the UEFA Euro 2020 will come to a wrap on Monday when North Macedonia and the Dutch National Team lock horns at Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam. The North Macedonian side are currently fourth in the group, while the Netherlands have already secured their spot in the next round and will be gunning to end the grop stage with a perfect record.
North Macedonia's chances to make the next round are slim after losing their previous games in the group. Their first match concluded with a 3-1 defeat against Austria, and a couple of days later, they lost against Ukraine with a 2-1 score.The team's only hope to qualify are limited to reaching the third place in this group and hope to improve the goal difference by either Ukraine or Austria if any of them lose in their clash.
As for the Dutch side, Frank de Boer's team have already secured a spot in the next round. The only duty they will have on Monday's match will be to earn at least one point, which would secure them the top spot in Group C after beating Ukraine (3-2) and Austria (2-0). The Oranje team has only been able to win their UEFA Euro group in two previous editions, and winning it a third time would do wonders for their confidence.
North Macedonia will have all but one of their players to choose from for this game, with the only exception being Ilija Nestorovski, who was ruled out of this match after picking up a muscular injury. The rest of the squad, led by Goran Pandev, will try to leave a lasting impression in this game.
Meanwhile, coach De Boer will have to deal with Donny Van de Beek's absence for the rest of the competition, as the footballer was ruled out due to an untimely injury. The rest of the squad is fit to play, although footballers such as Maarten de Roon could be left out to avoid the risk of one more yellow card.
This will be the fifth game between the national teams of North Macedonia and the Netherlands. As of now, the Dutch team has won two of those, with the other two ending in draws. The last game between these teams ended in a 4-0 win for the Netherlands, and needless to say, this will be their first clash in a final stage of the UEFA Euro.
