The Uruguayan side will make its debut in the 2020 edition when they face La Albiceleste, who were unable to hold on to the lead provided by Lionel Messi in their past game.

One of the most interesting games of the group stage in the 2020 Copa América will take place on Friday when Argentina and Uruguay lock horns. It will mark the reunion of two of the best strikers of this era (Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez), but it will also add one more chapter to one of the most intense rivalries in South American football.

Argentina will make their way to Mané Garrincha Stadium having drawn their first match of the competition against Chile. The blue and white side had taken the lead with a goal by Lionel Messi, but Edu Vargas' goal canceled that lead and ended their chances of winning the clash. As for Uruguay, La Celeste were the odd team out in the first round of games, which means that they will be making their debut in the 2020 edition.

Argentina's coach Lionel Scaloni has stated prior to the game that his team could field a different lineup than the one they used against Chile. One of the potential moves would include Cristian Romero's return to the lineup instead of Lucas Martínez Quarta. Another move could see Angel Di María leaving his spot in the starting XI to Nicolás González. Other than those, Argentina has no unavailable players for their clash against La Celeste.

On the other hand, Uruguay will enter the game with a full squad to choose from but with a need to win this clash that should not be ignored. La Celeste has drawn its two most recent games, and one more here could raise serious questions about their options in the competition. Their attack will be led by two of the best strikers in the world: Edinson Cavani and Luis Suárez, but in case they need some help, recent Liga MX champion Jonathan Rodríguez may give them an edge over the Argentine defense.

The rivalry between Argentina and Uruguay is one of the most intense and one with the most games when it comes to national teams, as they have played 196 games prior to Friday's match. Out of those, Argentina have won 90, with 59 going Uruguay's way. The last Copa América game between these national teams saw Argentina claim a one-nil win in the 2015 edition, thanks to a goal by Sergio "Kun" Agüero.
