Spurs’ exclusion from the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League apparently doesn't bother Luka Modric to the extent of wanting to quit for a bigger club.
The Croatian midfielder’s name was constantly mentioned in the headlines, especially last summer, as Chelsea looked favorites to land the player’s signature. All the same, Harry Redknapp won the transfer battle and Modric remained at White Hart Lane.

As the January transfer window is about to open, speculations surrounding the 26-year-old have emerged again. Rumors suggest that Modric might respond to Chelsea’s midfield problems by joining Andre Villas-Boas’ struggling Blues.

The player, however, has been quick to discard them. On Thursday, the English press reported Luka Modric as saying:

“All this talk is just in the media — I don't know anything about any of these alleged offers. We are doing our best at Tottenham to get the results sought by the club and the fans.

“Considering all the circumstances, particularly due to the fact I do not want to go over what I went through in the summer transfer period, I can say with almost 100 per cent certainty that I will stay at Tottenham until the summer.”

By then, Modric could be assured of participating in next season’s Champions League. Better still, the Croatian may even be a Premier League winner. The competition at the top of the standings is quite open although Manchester City and Manchester United lead the way.

Tottenham Hotspur have a game in hand and they are 4 points clear above fourth-placed Chelsea. They could also cut the gap against joint-leaders United and City to 4 points.

Spurs’ chances of ending the campaign on a high very much exist. This perhaps explains why Luka Modric is enjoying the momentum at the club right now. Pursuing his statement, the midfielder concluded:

“There is a small chance I could leave as it is a theoretical possibility if the club gets an offer for me and it is one you do not want to refuse.

“However, the reality is that I will stay at Spurs until June and then we will see. All options are possible. I just want to be healthy and play well, everything else will go in order.”

Despite encountering injury problems earlier this year, the 26-year-old has now featured 17 times for Tottenham Hotspur besides scoring a couple of goals and providing 5 assists. Spurs will end the year 2011 with a match away to Swansea City on Saturday, December 31.
