UEFA EURO 2020: How to watch Denmark vs Belgium live on June17, 2021

June 16, 2021 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Denmark will face an uphill task in their charge for the knockout stage of the Euros when they take on Belgium on Thursday.

Denmark will look to put the mishap from their opening group game behind them when they welcome Belgium to the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on Thursday. The venue will forever be remembered for having almost becoming the setting where one of the finest talents ever produced by the country lost his life mid-game. Christian Eriksen sent a scare across the whole football fratenity on Saturday after falling unconscious while his side battled Finland in their first group game of the 2020 European Championship. However, the immediate actions of his teammates and opposition players, as well as referee Anthony Taylor and the medics were enough to revive the 28-year-old playmaker who is now stable and slowly recovering at the hospital.

The play was suspended indefinitely but was sanctioned to resume by the matchday officials after both sides agreed to complete the proceeding against popular opinion. In Eriksen's absence, the stricken Danes were stunned even further, picking up a 1-0 defeat despite dominating the encounter from start to finish. The opportunity to take something out of the game presented itself in a form of a spot-kick but Pierre-Emile Hojberg's attempt being saved by goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky meant a first-ever win for the Fins in the European competition.

The stakes have since increased and a defeat to Belgium might see Denmark's campaign being truncated. Having registered a five game unbeaten run in the build-up to the ongoing finals, Kasper Hjulmand's men will be out to turn things around with the knockout round in sight. They can draw more motivation from the fact that they are yet to defeat the Belgians since the managed the feat in June 1984.

For the Red Devils, head coach Roberto Martinez will be asking for more of the same following their remarkable perfomance against Russia on opening day. Out of respect and as a tribute to Denmark's No.10 Christian Eriksen, they have decided to kick out the ball inside the 10th minute but will not be swayed in their pursuit for glory in the fixture. The tag as favorites still linger and they will be hopeful of backing it with another win.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 10 matches across all competitions, winning eight and drawing the remaining two games. Should the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, and Yannick Carrasco bring their A-game, the streak will be increased to 11 before the last group game of the campaign.

Team news

It has been confirmed that Christian Eriksen will be watching on from the hospital bed while continuing his recovery. Mentally, his teammates may not be too prepapred but they are expected to give the visitors a good match. For Belgium, Kevin De Bruyne's availablity is uncertain whiles Timothy Castagne's has also withrawn from the squad after suffering a nasty collision of heads with Daler Kuzyaev.

Jan Vertonghen may be forced to sit out this game due to an ankle injury while Axel Witsel is ready after recovering from an Achilies problem.
