2021 Summer Series: How to watch USWNT vs. Nigeria

2021 Summer Series: How to watch USWNT vs. Nigeria on Wednesday, June 14

June 15, 2021 By Juan Aguerrevere
The U.S. women’s national team and Nigeria will be the first two teams to play in Austin FC’s new home ground, Q2 Stadium, in the final game of the 2021 Summer Series on Wednesday, June 14.

The USA will look to improve its 41-game unbeaten streak, third-longest in program history, against the reigning champions of Africa, Nigeria, on Wednesday night. You can watch the Summer Series closing game live on ESPN 2, with coverage starting at 9 p.m. ET and kickoff slated for 9:08 p.m. ET.

The USWNT has come out on top in their previous five meetings against the Super Falcons. In fact, the two have never met in an exhibition game before. Of the last five meetings, four came in the World Cup and one in the Olympics. Moreover, the USA and Nigeria met in three consecutive World Cups – 1999, 2003, 2007 – and again in 2015.

Out of the four teams participating in the Summer Series – Jamaica, Nigeria, Portugal, USA – the U.S. is the only one that will participate in the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan. The Stars-and-Stripes defeated Portugal 1-0 and Jamaica 4-0 in their first two games of the tournament.

After their game against Nigeria, the USWNT will return to action to face Mexico twice in the 2021 WNT Send-off Series.

Nigeria roster

The Super Falcons are led by four-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala. Also, Nigeria’s roster features two players with connections to soccer in the USA. NJ/NY Gotham FC forward Ifeoma Onumonu and former U.S. youth international Toni Payne will see some familiar faces on Wednesday.

USWNT roster

American forward Carli Lloyd became the oldest player to score for the USWNT at age 39 after her goal against Jamaica. Also, forward Christen Press impressed in the USA’s first two games.
