On the same day as Lionel Messi scored twice to gift Barcelona the Club World Cup, his elder cousin Maximiliano Biancucchi was on target as Olimpia won the Paraguayan Clausura.
Paraguayan giants Olimpia obtained the Clausura championship after defeating Rubio Nu 2-1 at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asuncion on Sunday.

Gerardo Pelusso's side won the match courtesy of goals from Argentine striker Maximiliano Biancucchi, the elder cousin of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, and Colombian defender Francisco Najera.

With the triumph, Olimpia put an end to more than a decade without a title. Olimpia, who are known as the 'King of Cups' for having been crowned South American champions on three occasions, also assured themselves of participation in the 2012 editions of both the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana.

Olimpia were the stronger of the two sides, and went ahead as early as in the 5th minute with a fierce left-foot drive from Biancucchi. Najera doubled Olimpia's lead in the 57th minute when his dangerous cross found itself in the back of the net.

Luis Closa pulled a goal back for Rubio Nu in the 78th minute, as they went looking for a late draw that would have sent them into the Copa Sudamericana instead of Guarani. But Olimpia held on to win the 39th title of their history.

Olimpia registered 14 wins, 4 draws and 4 losses in their campaign, reaching 46 points, three points more than arch-rivals Cerro Porteno, who finished in second-place.

Cerro Porteno could only afford a 2-2 draw with Sol de America. Had Cerro won their game, all they would have needed was a Olimpia draw to force a one-off championship decider with Olimpia, which had been scheduled for December 22.

Paraguay's three representatives in the 2012 Copa Libertadores will be Olimpia, Nacional and Libertad. Cerro Porteno, who reached the semi-finals of the Libertadores in 2011, failed to gain entry into the competition.
