Surprisingly, the USWNT will not be able to defend their Women's World Cup title in the ongoing competition, as they have officially come up with the worst-ever performance for the team in such a competition, failing to reach the top four for the first time in history.
The Stars and Stripes failed to score despite dominating Sweden for the entire game, but even if they came really close to reach the next stage, fans did not hesitate to single out a couple members of the team they see as the main reasons for their elimination.
One of those "culprits" has to be none other than coach Vlatko Andonovski. His tactics throughout the competition were harshly questioned by fans across the country, even raising a recurrent joke about how he was forced not to make any substitutions during the games. The final "insult" to USWNT's supporters and experts came today, as he came up with some questionable decisions when he chose to bring in players in extra time.
Losing to a stingy Swedish team in penalty kicks after dominating possession for 120+ minutes isn't a disaster.

But you could've avoided Sweden if not for an abysmal showing in group play.
Disastrous tournament for Vlatko. Historically disastrous. #USWNT
The optimism around Vlatko's hire *from the players* was enormous. They thought they'd upgraded big time, that he was the serious and qualified coach they needed to take them to the next level.

A shocking failure.

Fire Vlatko and then fire everyone who hired him. #USWNT

Vlatko's inept in-game subs, refusal to use young talent like Ashley Sanchez, the misuse of Alex Morgan at the tip of a front 3, his loyalty to Andi Sullivan… all of that mattered more without Swanson, Becky, Macario, Mewis, Press.

The #USWNT deserved better from their coach https://t.co/J6SUtVjJYj
Then, fans turned their sights to Megan Rapinoe. The midfielder, who is set to retire by the end of the year, saw her penalty go over the bar during the shootout, putting an end to her impressive career with the USWNT. Nonetheless, her antics off the pitch caught the eyes of most, who seem to believe she was more worried about activism than actually doing what she does best. Her reaction as her shot went over the goal was severely criticized by both fans and experts.
The anti-American USA woke women's soccer team has been eliminated and Megan Rapinoe is the cause of it.
