Wednesday saw Arsenal take to the pitch in their highly-anticipated showdown with the MLS All-Star team, led by D.C. United manager and Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney.
And while the Gunners were not at their best early on in the game, Arteta's men still showed why they nearly won the Premier League last season by marching into a comfortable 2-0 lead within the first 23 minutes.
Mikel opted for a familiar lineup in the first half but come the second interval, the Spaniard made several changes, giving Takehiro Tomiyasu some minutes on the pitch while handing debuts to summer signings Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber.
While the two summer acquisitions grabbed the limelight, there were other talking points, including Kai Havertz, who got his first goal for his new club.
Following goals from Jorginho and substitute Gabriel Martinelli, the German got his name on the scoresheet to wrap up a 5-0 thrashing of the MLS All-Star team and to make things better, he silenced several critics along the way.
The former Chelsea ace came under heavy scrutiny after bombing the MLS All-Stars Skills Challenge, with Havertz failing to find the back of the net once in the volley challenge, leading many to question whether Arsenal made a colossal error in signing him.

Lo and behold, Kai's first goal for the North London giants, while not exactly a volley, showed that he has brilliant technique and can score stunners for the Gunners. Check out his goal in the video below.

Kai Havertz first #Arsenal goal came just 24 hours after he failed to hit the target in the MLS skills challenge. It's almost as if the skills challenge had absolutely no reflection on real footballing ability. #afc pic.twitter.com/nvYFHPaHf9
