The game between Uruguay and Paraguay for the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers has been filled with controversial calls by the referee, but one that could have given Uruguay the lead was simply outrageous.
Just when the game had passed the 20th-minute mark, the Uruguayan side made it to Paraguay's box and sent a through ball to Matías Vecino, who kicked the ball back to Jonathan Rodríguez, the player who found the back of the net with a well-placed shot. Moments later, the ref listened to offside claims by Paraguayan players and eventually disallowed the goal.
While Luis Suárez is in offside position prior to Vecino's pass, he had nothing to do with the play that ended with Rodríguez's shot. How did VAR execs miss that when making the call? Have a look for yourselves to see what we are talking about (Image might be geo-restricted).
