The Spanish club is still waiting on Karim Benzema to decide about his future, but it seems that Los Merengues have a few options to choose from.

Real Madrid know they have to hire a backup striker regardless of Karim Benzema's potential departure, and the team has reportedly eyed a potential replacement for the Frenchman -or for whoever fills his void- in the Premier League.

According to recent reports from England and Spain, the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners have identified a potential transfer target in Kai Havertz, who can play the dual role of a striker and a false nine for Los Merengues, and with Chelsea in need to offload players after a woeful season, Los Blancos would be able to get a cut-price deal to hire the German footballer.

Initial reports suggest that Havertz, who has been earmarked for an exit by coach Mauricio Pochettino, could join Los Merengues for a bit over $60M. Given Chelsea's need to clear their squad for next season, the German ace would be welcome as a reliable backup for Benzema or Harry Kane, the man named as Carlo Ancelotti's top option to fill Benzema's shoes.

Havertz has become a cult figure for Chelsea supporters, as he had a huge hand in their 2021 UEFA CL final win against Manchester City, where he scored the winning goal. The player has found the back of the net 32 times for the Blues in three years, which is quite respectable considering he is not a regular starter and started playing at No. 9 out of need.

The player himself has asked Chelsea's hierarchy for a chance to leave, and while such a signing may not come cheap for Real Madrid, the idea of having Havertz around as a reliable striker could pave the way for bigger signings in 2024, such as another run to hire Kylian Mbappé.
