One of the biggest stories in the recently concluded UEFA Europa League final had to do with Jose Mourinho's future. The coach, who has been named as an option to lead PSG's new project, was seemingly ready to say goodbye to the giallorossi after this match, but his words in the press conference following his team's PK miss against Sevilla point on the opposite direction.
The tactician spoke candidly about his future in the post-match interviews, hinting that he is open to fulfill his contract with the Italian side, but in order to do that, he will need certain conditions to be met by his current employers.
"I want to stay at AS Roma but my players deserve more… and I also deserve more. I'm really tired to be manager, head of communication, face of the club going to stay we've been robbed. I want to stay but with right conditions to give my best," Mourinho initially shared.
Then, the coach admitted that he be straightforward with his bosses if a club comes knocking on his door in the next weeks.
"My future? I will go on holiday on Monday. We will speak. I told the owners that I'll let them know first in case I will open talks with another club. I told the club when Portugal called me in December for NT job… as of now, no other clubs called me," the coach added.
Then, Roma's tactician decided to discuss the events that led to Roma's loss against Sevilla, aiming a massive swipe at referee Anthony Taylor, who had some questionable calls against the giallorossi, especially during the second half.
"Honestly, we are very sad about tonight. We go back home dead because of an unfair decision. It was like the ref came from Spain, so many yellow cards against us. Then, when he had to book Lamela for a second time, he chose not to book him. Then he goes and hands them an unfair penalty. It was clearly a massive injustice," Mourinho said.
Before the interviews came to an end, Mourinho praised his footballers despite these setbacks but also chose to aim one more dig at the English ref.
"We are tired mentally and phisically, especially because we feel it was an unfair result. There were many doubtful episodes, so many things to analyze. But I have told the team that we are proud of them for what they did. I have won five European finals and lost this one, but I have never returned home prouder than today. We gave it all this season," Mourinho concluded.
