Milan linked with move for Balogun

TRANSFER TALK: AC Milan linked with move for new USMNT striker

May 22, 2023 By Michelle Bonsu
The Rossoneri are keen on bringing in some fresh faces this summer, and have earmarked the new USMNT striker as an option to bolster their attack next season.

With 20 goals for Reims in a breakout campaign this season, Folarin Balogun has garnered quite a bit of attention from clubs all over Europe. The 21-year-old, who recently decided to play his international football for the USMNT after huge speculation that he could opt to try to battle his way into the English team, is currently playing for Reims on loan from Arsenal. Reports indicate that Balogun is more inclined to try to move away from the Emirates as soon as possible due to huge competition already in the starting XI, and that has helped to spark what could possibly be a bidding war between several European clubs.

One of the clubs keen on the promising youngster is none other than AC Milan. The Rossoneri clinched the Scudetto last season - their first in over a decade - but failed to replicate that same level of performance as Napoli surged to win their first Scudetto in 33 years. Stefano Pioli's men also made a deep run in the Champions League, only to be knocked out in the semi-finals by a vastly super Inter side.

With that in mind, the Diavolo will be keen on bolstering their squad as they once again hope to challenge for titles next season. With Olivier Giroud getting on in age, and Rafael Leao not a 100 percent certainty to stay just yet, Milan will need to ensure they have additional young options up front as they aim to build a squad that will be able to compete for years to come.

However, Balogun not only will not come cheap - with a price tag of approximately $32 million (€30 million) - but also the player, as noted before, is of interest to several other teams. One of those teams is apparently RB Leipzig, who recently beat Bayern Munich 3-1 over the weekend and will also be featuring in the Champions League next term as they are set to finish in third place in the Bundesliga.
