Napoli chief reveals update on Osimhen's future

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis reveals update on Osimhen's future following Scudetto victory

May 6, 2023 By Ali M.
The Nigerian attacker has established himself as one of the deadliest strikers in Europe and is thus garnering interest from the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

On Thursday, Napoli's Scudetto victory was made official. The Italian giants drew 1-1 at Udinese and were crowned the champions of Italy, lifting the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years.

And to no one's surprise, Victor Osimhen was hailed the hero of the city, with the Nigerian ace scoring a whopping 22 goals in 27 outings to lead Gli Azzurri to the crown. However, this raises an interesting question: how long does the former Lille striker have at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium?

Osimhen, who is regarded as one of the best strikers in world football, is being eyed by some of Europe's biggest clubs, including Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester United. A move to the Premier League has been the talk of the town, with the player himself admitting to dreaming of playing in England one day.

And with the 24-year-old having only two years left on his contract, could the newly-crowned Serie A champions be forced into selling their top scorer to a continental powerhouse this summer? Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis offered an update on the Super Eagles sensation and it is disappointing news for any club looking to sign him.

The 73-year-old Napoli chief sat down with Rai Sport show 'Cinque Minuti' and unequivocally announced that Osimhen is not for sale this summer, saying (as per Goal): "I will not sell Victor Osimhen this summer - no way!"

Osimhen joined the club in the summer of 2020 and has followed in the footsteps of previous world-class strikers such as Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain who made a name for themselves in Naples.

Chelsea and Manchester United are two mega-rich English clubs in desperate need of a striker and will likely be disappointed by this latest update. Napoli fans, on the other hand, can continue their celebration from Thursday asthey appear set to keep ahold of one of Europe's deadliest goalscorers.
