Carlo Ancelotti will have to work his magic to replace one of the club's most relevant footballers in the past decade.

Just when Real Madrid seemed ready to go all in to face their key matches in the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League, an untimely injury to one of their iconic footballers has given Carlo Ancelotti a major headache.

The player in question is the one and only Luka Modric, who left the game against Girona with a slight injury. Now, the team's medical staff and the coach will have to wait until the last minute to determine his availability for the Copa del Rey final and the first leg of their UCL tie against Manchester City.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference of the game against Almería, Ancelotti admitted that having Modric around may not be as easy as expected due to this physical issue.

"He picked up an injury and we will assess him when the time is right. I don't know right now if he will make it to the Copa del Rey final, we have to check that with him. We were hit hard by this, but it's something that can happen. Hopefully he won't take long to recover,"the Italian coach stated.

The former Milan coach referred to the men that could take Modric's spot in the lineup, although the element of experience Modric brings to the team will be hard to find in any of his options.

"If you think about skills only, then I'd say (Dani) Ceballos, but we have plenty of players: Camavinga, Tchouameni, we have many tools to fill his void. Nevertheless, his experience in those games is irreplaceable," Ancelotti added.

Before the press conference concluded, Ancelotti did not hold back when asked if he would find it harder to replace Modric than Eder Militao, who is out for the first leg due to a suspension. In the end, Ancelotti admitted he might need to replace both footballers.

"I don't know, but we will probably have to replace both in the first leg of the Champions League. Militao is one for sure, let's hope we don't have to replace Modric," Ancelotti concluded.
