The Red Devils finally secure the ticket to another appearance in Wembley with Sunday night's shootout win.

Manchester United have defeated Brighton & Hove Albion to qualify for the final of this season's FA Cup. The Red Devils defeated the Seagulls via penalties after both sides failed to score in 120 minutes of football action.

Despite a disappointing Thursday, Manchester United stuck to the cause to remain in contention for a domestic cup double and were able to come out on top in the end. A disappointing showing at Sevilla resulted in a humiliating 3-0 defeat which ended the dream of a Europa League cup in Erik ten Hag's first season in charge. Ahead of Sunday's encounter, the former Ajax manager charged his players to show character despite having a few key individuals unavailable through injury.

However, the proceedings at Wembley was anything but straightforward as the Brighton side who have largely overachieved this season, gave them a tough run throughout. In what was an end-to-end affair where chances were aplenty, neither of the two teams was able to break the deadlock in regulation time as well as the 30 extra minutes.

Following the goalless 120 minutes, the game was to be decided on spot-kicks. After 12 rounds in which the United and Brighton players took turn to score in succession, Solly March blazed his attempt over the crossbar to hand the former the advantage. Victor Lindelof subsequently stepped up to score the decisive penalty to seal the tie, setting up a final date with Manchester City in the process.

For Manchester United, the night's result meant that for only a third time in the club's history, they have reached the final of both the League Cup and FA Cup in the same season. The last time the feat was achieved was in the 1993-94 season, with the club having first achieved it in the 1982-83 season.

The final with Manchester City is scheduled for Saturday, 3 June, and Manchester United will be poised to potentially end the treble dream of their cross-city rivals.
