Key Man Utd players return ahead of Sevilla clash

Huge boost for Man Utd as key players return from injury ahead of UEL quarterfinal clash vs. Sevilla

April 19, 2023 By Ali M.
The English giants head to Seville after drawing 2-2 at Old Trafford but will have several key players at their disposal for the second leg.

Manchester United have been struggling with an injury crisis, with as many as eight key players missing out on the club's recent 2-0 win away to Nottingham Forest over the weekend.

And with the Red Devils preparing for their 2nd leg clash with Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League, fans were dreading Thursday's trip to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

Fortunately, a number of important players have returned to training ahead of the European tie, the most important being Marcus Rashford, who was seen back in training this Wednesday after overcoming a groin injury.

The Englishman picked up this issue roughly two weeks ago when the Red Devils hosted Everton in the Premier League, with their top scorer registering an assist before limping off the pitch in the final few minutes of that 2-0 victory.

Whether he is fit to start or not isn't clear but his return will be welcomed by Erik ten Hag. Against Sevilla, the Premier League giants created a number of opportunities, and had Rashford been on the pitch, the English side could have won that fixture.

However, the club also conceded two goals at home to Sevilla, which is a concern, and given the injuries to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, Ten Hag's defense is a huge worry.

Fortunately, Rashford wasn't the only man to resume training as Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Marcel Sabitzer all returned ahead of the return leg. Varane wasn't spotted, which makes Shaw's presence all the more valuable, as the Englishman has deputized in the center-back role before and could partner Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof if need be.

However, Ten Hag isn't out of the woods yet. With Lisandro and Raphael being sidelined, Garnacho yet to return from injury, and Bruno Fernandes being suspended, the Dutchman will have to overcome several hurdles if he wishes to lead the Red Devils to the UEFA Europa League semifinals.
