Manchester United will travel to take on a Forest side aiming to avoid the drop.

Nottingham Forest are in a dire situation as they face Manchester United at home on Sunday. Currently in the relegation zone, the Reds are fight to stay afloat following their return to the English top-flight. Despite the massive investments they have made, Steve Cooper's side has struggled to impress.

The City Ground outfit has failed to win any of their last nine matches in all competitions, with their only victory in the last 11 league games at home coming against Leeds United on February 5th. Their previous run of nine league games without a win ended with a 1-0 home victory over Liverpool, but they face a much tougher task this time against a resurgent Manchester United side. Coming into the encounter on the back of successive defeates against Leeds United and Aston Villa, this does not bode well for the hosts.

Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that Forest are aiming to set a new club record of scoring in 14 consecutive Premier League fixtures at home. Inversely, they have conceded a top-flight high of 14 goals from outside the box this season. The only visiting team to keep a league clean sheet at the City Ground this season was Spurs back in August.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are in a much better position. A win would help them surpass their overall points tally from last season of 58, and they are currently on a two-game winning run in the Premier League, having defeated Everton and Brentford. They are also unbeaten in all 15 league fixtures this season against teams who begin this matchround in the bottom half of the table.

However, United come into Sunday's game on the back of a somewhat disappointing result in their Europa League campaign. In their quarterfinal clash with Sevilla, the Red Devils gave up a two-goal lead in the last 10 minutes of the clash, drawing 2-2 with the Rojiblancos ahead of the second leg tie in Spain.

In the Premier League, they have lost three of their last four away matches, conceding 12 goals in those defeats. Only Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, Leicester City and Leeds have conceded as many Premier League away goals as the 29 Manchester United have this season.

That withstanding, Manchester United have a dominant record against Forest, having won their last nine fixtures against them in all competitions by an aggregate score of 34-3. Forest are looking to avoid joining Sheffield Wednesday in 1993-94 and Chelsea in 2010-11 as teams Manchester United have beaten four times within the same season. However, Forest did secure a win against Manchester United in their last Premier League victory against them, which was a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford in December 1994.

All in all, Newcastle's defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday means that Manchester United have the opportunity to climb to third with a win over Forest whereas the latter will be able to momentarily climb out of the relegation zone should they secure the maximum three points.

City and United continue to suffer injury woes ahead of their crucial Premier League clash. City's Kouyate and Niakhate have joined the likes of Biancone, Lodi, Richards, Scarpa, Wood, Boly, and Henderson in the treatment room. Yates and Aurier remain sidelined, while Freuler and Mangala will come in for the injured duo.

United's Varane and Martinez both suffered foot injuries against Sevilla, with the latter out for the season, while Rashford, van de Beek, Shaw, Heaton, and Garnacho are also out. Maguire and Lindelof will return as the centre-back pairing, and Eriksen may feature further up the field.
