The Norwegian striker is on the verge of making history with his goals contribution guiding the Cityzens to another vital win.

Manchester City's Erling Haaland is on the brink of breaking the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season after inspiring his side to another crucial win on Saturday. The 21-year-old Norwegian striker matched Mohamed Salah's 32-goal mark as the Citizens moved within three points of league leaders Arsenal with a dominant 3-1 victory over Leicester City at Etihad Stadium.

It was John Stones who broke the deadlock inside the opening five minutes with a stunning long-range effort, marking his first Premier League goal of the season. However, Haaland emerged later on to steal the show with two goals in the next 20 minutes, taking his season tally to an impressive 32 goals, which equaled Salah's record set for Liverpool in the 2017/18 season.

Although the Norwegian was substituted at half-time by Pep Guardiola, who had one eye on the upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash against Bayern Munich, his legacy was already secured. Unfortunately, he was unable to beat the record as a result of his substitution but is now two goals behind the tallies of Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, with the pair still ranking as the Premier League's joint-top goalscorers in a single season with 34 goals apiece.

On the hand, Leicester City managed to score a goal through Kelechi Iheanacho but, despite the strike giving Leicester a bit of hope, the damage had already been done, and they were unable to take advantage of the situation. With this victory, Manchester City have now won six consecutive matches in the league, increasing their total points to 70. On the other hand, Leicester City suffered a defeat in Dean Smith's first match as the manager, and they are currently in 19th place with just 25 points, two points away from avoiding relegation.
