The German coach supervised a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Allianz Arena in Tuesday night's cup game.

Thomas Tuchel's dream to lead Bayern Munich to a potential treble this season has been cut short after seeing his new club drop out of the DFB Pokal. A rather dramatic end to Tuesday night's encounter saw the Bavarians fall to a disappointing 2-1 defeat inside the Allianz Arena, confirming their elimination in the process.

After kicking off his return to the Bundesliga with an emphatic 4-2 win over his former club Borussia Dortmund, Tuchel went into the cup game with his sights set on back-to-back wins. However, little did the former Chelsea boss know that a shock result was awaiting his side inside their own backyard. Before the storm, Dayot Upamecano gave the hosts the lead with a powerful header from a corner, but Freiburg levelled the scoreline a short while later, thanks to Nicolas Höfler attempt from long-range.

Bayern continued to dominate in the second half but could not fashion an adequate response. The closest they came to grabbing the potential winner was when Benjamin Pavard hit the crossbar with head from Joshua Kimmich's setpiece.

Eventually, the keenly contested affair culminated in a stoppage-time penalty which went in favor of Freiburg after Jamal Musiala had handled a Höfler volley inside the box. The latter subsequently stepped up to convert from the spot, handing his club their first-ever away win over Bayern Munich and booking place in the semi-finals along with it.
