The attacker continued his fine form by scoring another goal to land a new milestone.

Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma now holds the record for most Premier League goals scored in a single season by a Japanese player. The 25-year-old winger landed the feat after hitting the target in the Seagulls' epic 3-3 draw with Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

The six-goal thriller at the Amex began with Pontus Jansson nodding the visitors ahead inside the 10th minute. However, 11 minutes later, Mitoma restore parity for the hosts with a brilliant goal. The attacker took a long pass from the goalkeeper, sped off and got behind the opposition defence, before hitting the ball over the head of Brentford's David Raya in post. Watch:

The strike saw the Brighton star taking his tally for the Premier League season to a total of seven goals, breaking the previous record of six set by Shinji Kagawa at Manchester United (season 12-13) and Shinji Okazaki at Leicester (season 17-18). He currently has 10 goals across all competition and has also extended his record of goals or assists in a match to six in a row.

Following Mitoma's leveller, Ivan Toney fired Brentford ahead once more in less than 20 seconds after the Japanese's goal and, six minutes later, Danny Welbeck ensured that both teams were par with Brighton's second of the afternoon. Ethan Pinnock came close to sealing the win for the visitors but Alexis Mac Allister's penalty in the 90th minute ensured that spoils were shared among the two sides.

At the moment, both Brighton and Brentford are still in the running for a place in European football next season. Tied on 43 points apiece, the former - who has two games in hand - sits in sixth position while the latter follows suit in seventh.
