The move is yet to be approved by the Spanish Football Federation due to the team's complicated financial situation.

The first steps for Barcelona's Camp Nou to undergo a massive change have been taken, as the Blaugrana side have already told the Spanish Football Federation about their intention to start work on their stadium in the summer of 2023.

A report by As states that the club has filed paperwork with the Federation to let them know where they will be playing next season and for the first five months of the 2023-24 campaign. The venue chosen by the Catalan side is none other than Olympic Stadium in Montjuic, located just 4.5 miles away from Camp Nou stadium.

The La Liga leaders have to wait for two developments to take place before they can make it official. The first of those has to do with the league itself, which need to approve the move and then, relay the news to UEFA, for any European competitions the might be involved in.

The second step, which may prove to be even more difficult, has to do with the funding for such a big commitment. The report by the Spanish newspaper states that the Blaugrana outfit are currently negotiating a funding agreement with a couple of investment funds, which will allow them to update their facilities at Espai Barça, the stadium, and its surroundings. The funds requested by the club go over $1,5000M, one of the largest investments ever made to upgrade a stadium.

If things go as planned, Barcelona will have to wait for UEFA's approval, which could be subject to the current investigation by the governing body in Europe in regards to alleged payments to a referee officer for the Spanish Football Federation, which saw the light last month.
