Lloris set to miss upcoming UCL matches and more

Tottenham hit with massive blow ahead of Champions League return

February 8, 2023 By Michelle Bonsu
The French shot-stopper is set to miss close to two months of action following a knee injury.

Last weekend saw Tottenham beat Manchester City 1-0, thanks to a record-setting goal from Harry Kane and a strong showing between the posts from Hugo Lloris. The result helped Antonio Conte's men inch closer towards a top-four spot, but it ultimately came at a price as Lloris sustained an injury during that match.

Today, reports indicate that it is much worse than initially thought, with the 36-year-old World Cup winner set to miss at least two months of action. While initial reports claimed that Lloris could be out for the rest of the season, new reports indicate that his absence could be somewhat shorter than that, with the Telegraph estimated his injury lay-off at anywhere from six to eight weeks.

Nonetheless, it still comes as a huge blow for Spurs, especially ahead of their upcoming Champions League round of 16 tie against AC Milan next week. Although the Rossoneri have been in awful form, thus making the English side the favorites to progress, Lloris's absence will certainly be keenly felt as Tottenham aim to go deep in the Champions League, consolidate a top four spot in the Premier League, as well as continue their progress in this season's FA Cup.

Second-choice shot-stopper Fraser Forster will now be tasked with taking over Lloris's duties, which will begin with Tottenham's upcoming away match against Leicester City this weekend followed by their trip to the Stadio San Siro to begin the first leg of their round of 16 clash versus Milan next week.
