Haaland linked with early exit

EARLY EXIT? Reports claim that Man City star could be pushing for shock move

February 8, 2023 By Michelle Bonsu
Despite racing to the top of the goal-scoring charts, the Norwegian player and his entourage are reportedly looking at an early exit.

As the saying goes: Appearances can be deceiving.

Since signing for Manchester City last summer for an estimated $62 million (£51.2 million), Erling Haaland has seemingly taken to the Premier League like a duck to water. With a whopping 31 goals in just 28 appearances across all competitions, with 25 of those in the Premier League, the 22-year-old Norwegian international has quickly become a fan favorite among many Cityzens supporters world wide.

Fans will hope that the former Borussia Dortmund man can keep up his goal-scoring exploits as City aim to dislodge Arsenal from top spot in the Premier League as well as finally end their long wait for a Champions League title. However, according to reports, not all is well with Haaland and his current club.

It's a well-known fact that Real Madrid were desperate to sign Haaland, only to miss out to the English giants. That being said, Los Blancos still have not given up on their pursuit of the striker as they view him as a good option to replace the aging Karim Benzema, who is now 35-years-old. It probably is no coincidence that reports from Spain in particular are putting forward the theory that Haaland is not totally convinced of Pep Guardiola's methods and has apparently discussed with his legal team at possibly moving his exit clause forward from 2024 to 2023.

Whether that is just Madrid trying to manifest a move through some curiously placed articles or is subject to opinion. However, Manchester City's current financial quagmire - which could see them face some stiff punishments if found guilty - will certainly be something Haaland and many other players will be mulling over. It's been claimed that the Cityzens could face a wide range of punishments, including even a shocking expulsion from the Premier League should they be found guilty.

For now, Haaland, who cut a surprisingly subdued figure during City's 1-0 loss to Tottenham last weekend, will have to turn his attention back towards current duties with his club, which includes a top of the table clash against current league leaders Arsenal coming up next week, as well as a Champions League round of 16 tie against Leipzig later this month.
