Letting Manchester City escape the allegations with a slap on the wrist is not an option for the rest of the Premier League clubs, and a recent report has shown what the proper punishment would be if it were up to those who compete against the Cityzens.

The probe by the independent investigation will determine Manchester City's guilt in regards to the more than one hundred allegations against the English side, but a spokesman for EPL team has already stated that stripping the titles the Sky Blues won during that time would not be the way to go. On the contrary, Premier League outfits are keen on watching Manchester City being relegated from the top-tier football category in the country.

Another possible sanction on this matter would be a hefty fine. This option has reportedly been dismissed by Premier League clubs, mainly because the Cityzens have enough financial power behind them to pay a fine, no matter how hefty it is. 

The report where these suggestions have emerged also states that clubs among the top six, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle were the most adamant to see Manchester City relegated to the EFL Championship.

Former UEFA chief investigator Yves Leterne spoke on this matter and dealt a huge blow to Manchester City's intentions to fight these allegations, as the Premier League's probe is not subject to time limitations and has not given the team a chance to appeal any decision reached by the independent commission, which was the case back in 2020, when UEFA's ban against the Sky Blues was lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

"That would make this case stronger. And then there is another element: the scope of the complaint is now broader than that at UEFA. Both in time and in substance. Especially because the Premier League does not have to adhere to the same strict limitation periods as we do. We encountered a period of 5 years, which meant that we could not use important elements," Leterne stated.

There is no clear indication on when the results of the commission will be revealed to the world. However, it is believed by sources close to the league that a decision could be made before the end of the 2022-23 campaign, so that any potential sanction can be applied prior to the start of the new season.
