Les Dogue have ended Paris Saint-Germain's dominance to secure their fourth-ever league title.

Lille have been crowned as champions of Ligue 1 for the first time in 10 years after a tightly contested race with former holders Paris Saint-Germain. Les Dogues held their ground to secure a 2-1 win over Angers and were unbothered by Paris Saint-Germain's 2-0 victory over Brest at the same time on Sunday night.

Canadian international Jonathan David set the ball rolling for Christopher Gaitler's men by scoring the opening goal after being beautifully set up by Renato Sanches. Veteran striker Burak Yilmaz who had promised fans that his side will deliver the title to them following their disappointing 0-0 draw with Saint Etienne then provided the cushion by converting a spot-kick for the game's second goal.

With the show almost complete, Lille were handed a nervy ending after Angelo Fulgini pulled a goal back for Angers in injury time. But that was all that the hosts could offer with the final whistle and the voices of ecstatic comrades echoing throughout the Raymond Kopa Stadium. Elsewhere across the country, an own-goal by Romain Favre and Kylian Mbappe's strike had put Paris Saint-Germain in a position to usurp the dark horses should they slip up.

The result meant that with 83 points, and after a decade in the waiting, Lille have claimed the championship by finishing just a point above PSG who have won seven of the last eight titles. They are the third team to win at least two Ligue 1 titles in the 21st century after Lyon and Les Parisians who have each won seven times.
