The Tottenham Hotspur superstar saved the day for his side and their neighbours in their respective chase for European football with a late double against Leicester.

Chelsea may have to send some a box of chocolate the way of Gareth Bale for his remarkable goals that have not only saved the season of Tottenham Hotspur but that of the Blues as well. The Welsh attacker has received plaudits from supporters of the Blues and Spurs alike after hitting two late goals to sink Leicester City's Champions League ambitions in the clash of the Premier League's final day of the season.

Considering the stakes for both clubs, a cagey affair was anticipated at the King Power Stadium and, rightly so, the clash lived up to expectation. It was the hosts who showed huge signs of promise right from kick-off and they were deservedly rewarded thanks to Jamie Vardy's strike from the penalty spot in the 18th-minute.

Shortly after the game's opener, the Foxes were made to deal with the absence of Wesley Fofana with the Frenchman picking up a muscle injury that forced his substitution. With with recognised defender on the bench, Brendan Rodgers shifted Wilfred Ndidi into a make-shift centre-back with a little under 70 minutes of football left to play.

The decision, however, did not yield the desired result as Harry Kane will end up tie the game at one-all with  a brilliant half volley moments before the half-time break. But a second penalty for Leicester City just seven minutes into the second half gave Jamie Vardy the chance to put his side in the driver's seat once more. A bizarre own-goal by Kasper Schimeicel will put the teams level ahead of the final 10 minutes of proceedings before Gareth Bale hit a double in the 87th and 96th minute.

Watch the goals below:

The significance of the win was that it moved Tottenham Hotspur into seventh position to contest for the maiden Europa Conference League scheduled to take place next season. On the contrary, Leicester missed out on a Champions League place even after Chelsea were put to the sword against Aston Villa. The Blues could only manage a consolation goal through a Jorginho penalty after Bertrand Traore and Anwar El-Ghazi had put the hosts ahead. But the outcome did not really matter much with Spurs' win over the Foxes securing a fourth-place finish for them.

Meanwhile, Liverpool managed to finish on a high, beating Crystal Palace 2-0 to climb into third-place with 69 points. A 3-0 win for West Ham over Southampton also consolidated their status as Europa League contenders for next season, alongside Leicester City. With 65 points, the Hammers secured their best league finish in 22 years.
