The Spanish wingback was all but set to joins Spurs but this transfer saga has taken an unexpected turn.

Tottenham have suffered a huge blow as Pedro Porro, the club's main priority for the January transfer window, might not be arriving in North London this month.

A deal for the Spanish right wingback looked all but agreed up until today, with Spurs negotiating a deal with Sporting CP, Porro's current employers, worth nearly €44M ($49M).

In fact, the player even bid goodbye to the fans of the Portuguese giants, waving an emotional farewell to the Lions during the League Cup final defeat against Porto.

However, fast forward to today and David Ornstein of the Athletic revealed an unexpected twist to this transfer saga. According to the well-known reporter, the player's move to Tottenham has now collapsed despite Sporting CP's president informing Porro he would be allowed to leave.

The report states that the Lions reneged on terms in the agreement and as a result, the deal is currently off. Pedro, who was keen on moving to the Premier League, is said to be distraught by this development.

However, all hope is not lost. According to Fabrizio Romano, while Sporting CP "changed the conditions of the deal right before signing the documents", the North London giants are still working to resolve this issue in order to bring the Spaniard to Tottenham.

Antonio Conte is in desperate need of a new right wingback as both Royal Emerson and Matt Doherty have struggled under the Italian boss. The club is currently in fifth, three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United despite having played a game extra.

Sporting CP, who had initially agreed to the sale of Porro, were keen on recruiting Tariq Lamptey on loan but were rejected by Brighton, which might have played a part in this reversal. Nonetheless, Tottenham are adamant about getting this deal done despite the transfer window nearing its end.
