Frustrated Mourinho eyeing EPL return

Mourinho reportedly eyeing Premier League return amid growing frustration at Roma

January 28, 2023 By Ali M.
Could the Special One return to the English top flight? According to one report, the Portuguese icon is keen on another spell in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho might no longer be one of the most sought-after managers in the game, but the Italian tactician is reportedly eyeing a move to the world's most popular league.

The Special One is currently at Roma and while he guided the Italian giants to European success last season, the 60-year-old is said to be frustrated in the Italian capital. In fact, according to the Daily Mail, Jose desires a return to the Premier League.

Mourinho became synonymous with the English top flight during his four managerial spells in that competition, coaching Chelsea on two separate occasions before taking over Manchester United and eventually Tottenham. However, after his unsuccessful stint at Old Trafford and Spurs, the Portuguese legend's stocks plummeted and thus he left for the Giallorossi.

In his debut season with the Serie A outfit, Mourinho led them to the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League crown, the club's very-first European silverware, beating Feyenoord in the final.

However, since then, Roma have failed to invest heavily in order to challenge for the Italian top-flight, with Dybala and Co. currently sitting fifth in the table, leaving Mourinho frustrated. As a result, he is said to be keen on returning to the Premier League, the richest league in the world.

A third spell in charge of Chelsea is Jose's preference, with the manager's representative making Boehly and Co. aware of his desire. However, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy remains committed to Graham Potter and does not wish to replace the Englishman.

West Ham, another club situated in London, are another option. The Special One's wife and children live in the English capital, which means that if David Moyes was to be let go, then Jose might end up getting linked to that vacancy. However, a mid-season move is unlikely for the iconic tactician as he aims to guide Roma back into the UEFA Champions League.
