Agüero hits back at Zlatan over WC thoughts

Agüero hits back at Zlatan following criticism on World Cup triumph celebrations

January 26, 2023 By Oscar Rojas
The Argentine footballer did not hold back to defend the way La Albiceleste's players celebrated their World Cup victory against France.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's statements against the Argentine football team caused quite a stir on social media, and his words caused a scathing reply from Sergio Agüero, one of the men involved in the events criticized by the Swedish ace.

Yesterday, the AC Milan forward did not hold back to state that those Argentine players with excessive gestures during the aftermath of the World Cup final should celebrate on a high, since he believes "none of them will ever win anything more." While he did not mention who he was referring to, Zlatan did exclude Messi from the rest of his teammates, but he might have referred to goalkeeper "Dibu" Martínez...and to Agüero.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, the footballer-turned-gamer tried to hit back at Zlatan for some of the incidents he has been involved in during his career, starting with an incident with Nicolás Otamendi.

"I remember we were playing against United. You tried to pick on us, you replied. Speaking of bad behaviour, I don't think you're one to talk. You had your share of bad moments on the pitch. Some harsh tackles, and even a brawl in the U.S. while you were playing for LA Galaxy, where you ended up saying they had hurt you as well. Is that good behaviour for you?", Aguero stated.

Then, the footballer recalled the harsh relationship Ibrahimovic had with Pep Guardiola.

"It's weird, because you have been pretty feisty as a player. A great player, without a doubt, but pretty feisty. You had arguments with Pep Guardiola, who then sold you when both were at Barcelona. You have to look at your career and then analyze how you behaved then," Aguero added.

Then, the recently retired Argentine added a harsh dig against the Swedish National Team.

Evidently, Agüero's words were praised by Argentine journalists. Nevertheless, his statements may have been caused by his remorse on how he behaved during La Albiceleste's title celebrations.

Back then, "Kun" aimed some insults at French midfielder Eduardo Camaving and appeared to be a bit tipsy during an interview with some of Argentina's players right after the game. The former Man City ace was criticized around the world for being inside the team's locker room when he was not even part of the team, which may have taken Zlatan's words as a direct jibe to him.
