Milan ace set to join MLS side this summer

AC Milan ace set to join MLS side when contract with Italian team ends

January 24, 2023 By Oscar Rojas
The striker has never hidden his desire to play in the North American league, and things could be planned to become true this summer.

The end of the winter transfer window is approaching, and while some players are still considering  move in the final days of this window, others are considering a life-changing transfer when the summer window opens up.

Such is the case of Olivier Giroud, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner with France and 2022 runner-up with Les Bleus. The French footballer has been linked to a contract extension with the rossoneri, but in the event no deal is reached, the footballer would be keen to join a team at an "exotic" destination, which would be none other than the MLS.

Speaking in an interview with Canal Football Club, Giroud admitted that his top priority will be to extend his contract with the Italian side, but he would be open for a move to the North American competition if things cannot be worked out between him and the Serie A champions.

"I want to extend my deal with Milan. With the Scudetto win I won the hearts of our fans. I am having talks with the club, and if I can end my career at a high level with Milan, I will. But if it's not possible, I could choose an exotic destination, I have always like the MLS," Giroud said.

Back in 2019, Giroud showed interest in joining the MLS in another interview, where he admitted that given his years in the Premier League, the transition to the American competition would not be hard for him or to his family. Following those statements, the Vancouver Whitecaps initiated negotiations for his services, but the French ace decided to stay with Chelsea and eventually worked out a deal to join Milan in 2021, where he played a key role in their Scudetto run last season.

Reports close to MLS clubs such as the LAFC, Inter Miami, and Los Angeles Galaxy have stated that these clubs would be interested in Giroud's services, although the first option for the footballer will be Milan for the time being. Once the winter window closes across the globe, the future of the 36-year-old ace will be one to keep an eye on.
